As Chief Marketing Officer of THEMAGIC5, David Shackley leads global brand strategy, marketing, partnerships, and community growth as the company expands its presence worldwide.
A lifelong swimmer, David first discovered THEMAGIC5 as a consumer – drawn to its breakthrough approach to custom-fit goggles. The company gained international visibility following its appearance on the TV show Shark Tank. Each pair of goggles is made using a facial scan and proprietary fitting technology to match the unique contours of an individual swimmer’s face. Headquartered in Copenhagen with offices in New York, the sports technology company serves swimmers of all levels across the globe.
Before joining THEMAGIC5, David served as Senior Vice President at Marriott International, where he oversaw global creative, events, partnerships, and internal communications. In that role, he played a key part in the continued growth of the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program, which now includes more than 230 million members worldwide.
Prior to Marriott, David was the Executive Producer of Global Launch Events at Apple, where he contributed to the launch of two iPhones, the first Apple Watch, and the Worldwide Developers Conference. He also served as President and Chief Creative Officer at RedPeg Marketing, managing creative strategies for clients including Geico, Mercedes, Call of Duty and the NBA, and producing over 1,500 live events. Rumor has it that David even donned the Gecko costume himself to engage with consumers directly – because sometimes, you’ve got to get in the trenches (or the mascot suit) for real connection.
David’s impressive career includes significant roles at Mark Burnett Productions, where he oversaw marketing and communications for hit shows like The Voice and The Bible, and at Discovery Channel, where he managed Shark Week and several other Emmy-winning programs. During his time at AOL, he was part of the marketing team that famously cluttered mailboxes everywhere with CD-ROMs promoting AOL version 3.0 – proof that sometimes you really can "mail it in!” Additionally, while at AOL David directed high profile activations including SXSW, a Super Bowl Half time show, and the huge music event, Live8.
